Kenneth Schoenberg

Schoenberg1“I love growing good forages, which is part of the reason we’ve been trying to grow more of our own hay. Since moving our dairy out here 4 1/2 years ago from Pennsylvania, we’ve put in two 40-acre stands that have been split between AmeriStand 407TQ and another brand, just to see how they compare. Unfortunately, it was so dry last year that the first stand only came in at about 85 percent. So we used a 4-wheeler to overseed the whole 40 acres with AmeriStand 407TQ, which kind of hurt my comparison. Not only did it fill out the stand, but I’ve had several neighbors tell me how good it looks. Of course, our dealer has been very good about taking care of us, too.

“We chopped the first cutting as silage and baled three more cuttings after that. However, in contrast to last year, this year was almost too wet and we had two cuttings that got rained on that I think would have gone 170 to 180 relative feed value. Still, the crop had a lot of leaves and went in the range of 140 to 150. Now, I’m waiting to see how the new field will do under a true comparison.” - - Kenneth Schoenberg of Hoyleton, Illinois, 80 acres of alfalfa (half of it being America’s Alfalfa) and an America’s Alfalfa grower for 4 1/2 years.
